HSE – Environmental Coordinator
Location: Field-based,~1.5 hrs South of Grande Prarie, Alberta. Remote and will be staying in Camp.

Your Opportunity at Michels Canada
The Environmental Coordinator is a field-based position responsible for assisting in the coordination and maintenance of environmental compliance, education, and training programs. Working under limited supervision, the successful candidate will support Michels’ commitment to environmental protection and regulatory compliance on pipeline and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote a strong safety and environmental culture for all employees, vendors, and customers, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform environmental observations and audits under the direction of the Environmental Lead/Manager.
- Interact with client environmental representatives during project situations.
- Manage environmental impacts and regulatory requirements on assigned projects or facilities.
- Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly environmental progress reports.
- Deliver environmental education, awareness training, and presentations to groups as required.
- Assist in the development of site-specific environmental plans, including: Environmental Management Plans, Waste Management Plans, Spill Prevention Plans, Hazardous Materials Business Plans, SWPPP, SPCC, and others.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, participate in formal client meetings, and understand customer requirements.
- Track and evaluate Michels’ sustainability goals.
- Support HSE toolbox talks, tailboards, and HSE meetings.
- Promote and exemplify all Michels HSE programs and core values.
- Continuously develop knowledge of Michels HSE policies and procedures to provide guidance to field personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Participation in an environmental training or certification program (Wetland, CESCL, FERC, etc.).
- 2+ years of experience in the environmental and construction sector or similar.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience and working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations related to pipeline installation.
- Ability to travel on short notice in response to HSE needs.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Desired Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge and/or experience with mapping software (ArcGIS, etc.).
- Additional environmental certifications or training programs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Periodic use of hand tools such as hammers, shovels, or rakes.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven/slippery surfaces, and moderate noise.
- May work in wet/humid conditions, near mechanical equipment, or at heights.
- Frequent travel required, including extended durations away from home (up to two weeks at a time).
