As an Environmental Coordinator you will play an integral role in supporting project teams to achieve and maintain full compliance with environmental legislation, contractual requirements, and other project-specific conditions and commitments. Your work will help foster a positive and proactive culture of environmental awareness and regulatory responsibility with you project team and throughout the Pomerleau family.
What you will do
- Develop, implement, and oversee environmental plans (e.g., Environmental Protection Plans, Erosion Control Plans, Waste Management Plans).
- Conduct site inspections and monitor environmental compliance during high-risk and routine construction activities.
- Perform sampling and environmental monitoring (e.g., water quality, turbidity, pH) including marine-specific monitoring such as hydrophone use and marine mammal observation.
- Identify, communicate, and help resolve potential or actual environmental non-compliance or incidents.
- Liaise with internal teams, consultants, clients, and regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to environmental legislation, permits, and best practices.
- Track, document, and report on environmental performance indicators including spills, waste management, and non-conformities.
- Support project teams in achieving LEED, Envision, and other sustainability certifications.
- Verify environmental compliance of subcontractors and assist in the regulatory reporting process.
- Maintain accurate project records including field notes, measurements, checklists, and photographic documentation.
- Participate in project meetings, debriefings, and contribute to environmental awareness training.
This role could be for you if you have
- Bachelor’s degree (or diploma) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
- 2–7 years of relevant environmental experience, preferably in construction or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting requirements at municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
- Experience with environmental monitoring tools and data analysis (e.g., water quality sampling, sediment control).
- Familiarity with certification programs like LEED and Envision.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional designation (e.g., RPBio, P.Ag., P.Eng.) or willingness to obtain is an asset.
- Experience working on marine construction projects is considered an asset.
