Description

JOB INTRODUCTION

Based at Harris Street Depot, you’ll work across the district in a high-impact role, taking on waste crime head-on and making Bradford a cleaner, safer place to live, work, and visit.
Are you passionate about making Bradford cleaner, greener, and safer? Join our Environmental Enforcement Team and help tackle fly tipping, littering, dog fouling, illegal waste carriers, and more.
This is your chance to make a real difference. You’ll work across the district, investigating environmental offences, engaging with the public and businesses, and taking formal enforcement action. Using CCTV surveillance, supporting stop-and-search operations with Police, and targeting waste crime hotspots, you’ll be right at the frontline of protecting Bradford’s environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Responding to reports of fly tipping, littering, dog fouling, and waste burning.
  • Investigating commercial and residential waste offences – ensuring everyone disposes of their waste properly and legally.
  • Conducting surveillance using CCTV and deploying mobile cameras across environmental crime hotspots.
  • Taking formal enforcement action – from issuing fixed penalty notices to preparing robust prosecution files for court proceedings.
  • You’ll also work side-by-side with West Yorkshire Police on stop-and-search operations, intercepting illegal waste carriers, ensuring rogue traders are held accountable and helping disrupt organised waste crime at its source.

You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

  • Passionate about environmental protection and community wellbeing.
  • Confident, resilient, and calm when faced with challenging situations.
  • Experienced in enforcement, regulatory, or investigative roles (minimum 3 years preferred).
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject – or bringing strong applied knowledge and experience.
  • Skilled in applying legislation related to waste and environmental crimes, including gathering evidence for legal action.
  • Able to use a range of IT systems and technologies for reporting, evidence capture and case management.
  • A strong communicator who can engage effectively with the public, businesses, and partner agencies.
  • A full UK driving licence holder with business-use insurance.

A basic disclosure check with theDisclosure and Barring Service will be undertaken for this post.
