Description

CDM Smith is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer in the Boston, MA office to support a wide variety of environmental projects. The preferred candidates will have field experience working at Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), Superfund and other contaminated sites, running complex field programs, preparing planning documents and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects. The preferred candidate will have experience with assessing and evaluating remedial approaches for contaminated soil, sediment, and groundwater. The preferred candidate will perform well in a task leader/task manager role and have a desire to advance their career as either a project technical leader or project manager.

As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith’s mission by:

  • Managing tasks on large projects or phases of small projects.
  • Performing surface and subsurface soil sampling, groundwater sampling, and other field data collection to support environmental and water supply projects.
  • Working on a variety of assignments, which may include field studies, research investigations, construction oversight, data interpretation and evaluation, or report preparation.
  • Performing engineering design for environmental projects, including preparation of drawings, specifications, calculations, and developing operation, maintenance, and monitoring plans.
  • Performing remedial construction oversight and quality control
  • Reviewing draft assessments and calculations for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Learning project management techniques and the CDM Smith management system.
  • Developing external client interaction and marketing skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate will be an LSP (Massachusetts Licensed Site Professional) and/or have experience working with project management methodology including budget development, project planning, control and assurance methodologies, project management software and finance and accounting concepts and practices.
  • Experience in solid waste/landfill/permitting, design and construction experience for at least 5 years and a track record of high value client relationship building and ability to win work in a regional area within New England.
  • Field experience working at Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), Superfund, mining, and other contaminated sites, running complex field programs, preparing planning documents and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects.
  • This position is best suited for an individual that is excited to develop experience across a range of managerial and technical skills. Experience with supervision and mentoring of junior engineers and in construction management.
  • Candidate who is willing to travel for field work (e.g. day travel or overnight travel).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience and demonstrated ability to lead field programs at contaminated sites.
  • Experience working with commonly used computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience coordinating with subcontractors, third-parties, and directing junior staff for field programs at contaminated sites.
  • Proven experience in data evaluation and report preparation for environmental assessment, conceptual site model development, remediation, field investigations, and/or construction oversight activities.
