We are currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Greenhouse Gas / Sustainability team in Western Canada. The successful candidate will conduct Greenhouse Gas (GHG) verifications, quantifications and/or reporting projects under Alberta Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation, British Columbia GHG reporting regulation, Saskatchewan GHG regulation, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Canadian Climate Lens Assessment program, and other required regulations and GHG reporting programs.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU A GREAT CANDIDATE:

  • Must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering and be registered to practice in Alberta (APEGA)
  • relevant work experience in environmental consulting, environment auditing and/or GHG quantification/verification
  • Experience in GHG quantification methodologies, especially Alberta Quantification Methodology (AQM) and Western Climate Initiative (WCI)
  • Knowledge of Alberta TIER reporting regulation, including large emitters and aggregated conventional oil and gas facilities
  • Knowledge of production processes and GHG emission sources in one of more of the following: gas processing plants, oil sands mining, in-situ oil sands, and conventional oil and gas
  • Knowledge of data science tools such as Phyton is an asset
  • Knowledge of environmental economics and administrative approaches, such as cap and trade system and carbon tax system for emission controls
  • Experience in thermodynamics, knowledge of steam energy calculation
  • Proficient with Excel for data analysis
  • Training in ISO14064-1,2, and/or 3 is preferred and is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skill
Responsibilities
  • Verifying, identifying, and checking raw data against data used in the quantification
  • Ensuring quantification methods used are appropriate and correct
  • Assessing that the data management systems and control procedures are sufficient and appropriate
  • Conducting site visits to verify emission sources, interview operators, and review supporting documents
  • Evaluating that GHG reports are prepared in accordance with the program criteria, such as TIER
  • Preparing verification reports
  • Support the team in preparing technical proposals
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites across Western and Northern Canada
