Job Description
AECOM is looking for an Intermediate Engineer, Scientist or Geologist for its Halifax, NS location. This is a full-time role.

JOB SUMMARY:

The role will be a combination of technical work delivery and field work, though the work can/may vary based on the applicant’s experience and career aspirations.
This position is ideally suited to an Intermediate engineer, scientist or geologist with technical strengths applied to environmental consulting.
This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.
The successful candidate will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (Science, Geotechnical, Geology, Environmental Engineering, etc.) + four (4) years of related experience within this field.
  • Project experience with contaminated sites in Nova Scotia.
  • Experience with field work conducting sampling of media (groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, etc.).
  • Understanding of the Nova Scotia Contaminated Sites Guidelines and associated regulation and protocols.
  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered, or have the ability to register, with Engineers Nova Scotia as a P.Eng. or Association of Professional Geoscientists of Nova Scotia as a P.Geo.
  • Experience with mining related projects, including historical mine sites.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites (sometimes remote) on occasion.
  • Field work experience.
  • Working in a team setting to meet timelines and quality management.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

The job responsibilities for the position will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Preparation, coordination and participation in field programs to collect and analyze environmental data (both office and field duties).
  • Preparation of project deliverables: workplans, technical letters, memorandums, reports, maps, drawings, and detailed design packages.
  • Development of technical approaches in conjunction with senior staff on site assessment, remedial options analysis and remediation projects.
  • Preparing project specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for remedial options analysis and implementation.
  • Performing project supervision, administration, and monitoring, including contract close out and reporting (both office and field duties).
