Description

Van Walt is seeking a highly motivated and versatile individual to join our technical department. This hands-on role offers a unique blend of responsibilities with approximately 70% office work and 30% field base work. Must be flexible with a proactive attitude, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves are essential.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Proven mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience
  • Confidence working in both field and office environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and practical approach to tasks.
  • Good IT literacy
  • Soldering skills
  • Attention to detail and methodical record keeping
  • Proficiency in the safe and effective use of a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a methodical and analytical approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to tasks and problem-solving, with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative without prompting.
  • Awareness of health & safety standards and risk assessment procedures.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential for fieldwork and site visits).

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of SDI-12 / Modbus systems
  • Basic understanding of electronics and wiring
  • Competence in interpreting technical drawings or schematics.
  • Mechanical or engineering qualification (NVQ, HNC, or degree level) or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities
  • Configure, assemble, and test telemetry systems and related hardware in the workshop.
  • Accurately follow technical documentation, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Maintain technical documentation such as user manuals and service logs.
  • Undertake compliance testing, product validation, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Perform installation, servicing, and maintenance of equipment and systems on customer sites.
  • Provide technical support to customers, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and resolving product issues.
  • Deliver hands-on technical demonstrations and training sessions for both internal staff and clients.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of rental equipment to ensure readiness and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment during all tasks.
  • Collaborate with the wider technical team to support research, development, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Help out with general warehouse operations when required such as stock takes and packing.
  • Flexibility to travel for work and carry out varied site work when required
