Description
Sims Metal (Sims) is a global leader in metal recycling. With facilities across the globe, Sims plays an intrinsic role in the circular economy by making resources available for future use. As a responsible corporate citizen, we continuously seek new ways to broaden our participation in the environmental sector, ensuring that our future is as bright, safe, and secure as at any time in our long history. With a promote-from-within philosophy and a variety of programmes available to support continuous learning, Sims offers the opportunity for a rewarding career. We are committed to the ecologically sound and sustainable use of resources and strive to operate in a manner that minimises waste and protects the environment.   Your new role: Reporting to the Regional EHS Partner, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering effective Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) managerial and technical support to Sims facilities throughout the SA/NT region. You will develop, implement, and evaluate risk management programs that ensure a safe and healthy workplace. This role bridges the gap between policy and practice by auditing environments, investigating incidents, and mentoring colleagues – ensuring safety is lived value rather than just a compliance requirement.   Your responsibilities will include but not limited to: Systematically identify hazards and assess risks in the workplace, including chemical, physical, and process-related hazards. Develop, implement, and review environmental health and OHS management plans in line with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011, relevant state-based legislation, and industry standards. Monitor and manage programs to minimise workplace and environmental impacts, focusing on airborne particulates (dust), noise, and heavy metal contaminants Lead root-cause analysis for significant EHS non-conformances and provide high-level risk ratings to support data-driven decision-making. Facilitate ‘Learning from Events’ sessions to ensure corrective actions are effectively communicated and implemented across the sub-region. Promote ergonomic principles and coordinate the injury management/workers’ compensation process to support safe return-to-work outcomes. Act as the primary point of contact for regulators, customers, and vendors regarding inspections and EHS data. Demonstrate a visible commitment to EHS policies, participate in local committees, and support diversity and inclusion initiatives. Monitor budgets and drive continuous quality improvement across all safety measures. Manage worker's compensation claims and the return-to-work process.   Essential Criteria: A tertiary qualification in Environment, Health & Safety or above in a related field. Experience of at least 2-4 years in a high-hazard environment advising on safety, health and/or Environmental issues. Previous experience with EHS incident investigation and return to work processes. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications and presentation skills. Driver's licence and ability to travel across South Australia and Norther Territory as needed.   What We Offer Paid Parental Leave - 12 weeks for primary carers, 6 weeks for secondary carers Health Benefits - BUPA discounts for you and your family Wellbeing Support - Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Financial Tools - Tailored superannuation sessions to support your financial future Career Growth - Ongoing learning and internal promotion pathways   Interested?
