Description The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating all environmental, health, and safety programs at the Highland Park, Michigan facility. This role ensures full compliance with MIOSHA, OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and federal environmental regulations, and maintains certification and continuous improvement under ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System). The EHS Specialist serves as the site leader for safety culture, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and environmental stewardship. Plans, implements, and coordinates the plant safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illness, death, and financial losses; develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the plant. Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ISO 45001:2018, and ISO 14001:2015. Serves as liaison with local health department, MIOSHA, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), EGLE (Michigan EPA) and the City of Highland Park. Performs annual review of and recommends and participates in the development of plant safety policies and procedures. Inspects plant facility to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements; makes recommendations to minimize potential environmental pollution; implements related training and educational programs. Responds to reports of leaks, spills, and any other releases of potential environmental pollutants; investigates and ensures appropriate corrective action. Responds and investigates reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; submits recommendations and/or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks. Conducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of facility; Performs annual JSA and reviews hazard matrix (safety) and significant aspects (environmental) for continual improvement. Participates in the development and management of annual operating budgets for the Safety Department. Implements and serves as chairperson of Safety Committee and conducts CPR/FA/AED training for required employees. Serves as Lead Auditor and EHS Manager for ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015. Conducts, and issues ISO Internal Audits and verify compliance with the Standard. Maintains Legal compliance including documentation and permits with required Government Reporting Agencies (OSHA, SARA, Title V, etc.) Other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 2 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Working knowledge of MIOSHA and OSHA regulations. ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 experience required (implementation, maintenance, or auditing).
