Description

Environmental Health Specialist, II for the Clinton County Health Department responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing Food Protection and Vector Control Programs.

Implements and Maintain Food Safety Program to include:

  • Develops risk categorization of food establishment procedures for implementation, administration and evaluation of plans or programs and measures progress
  • Prepares program goals and objectives.
  • Conducts food establishment inspections
  • Schedules inspections on regular basis or in response to complaints, as required.
  • Prepares inspection reports
  • Investigates food complaints
  • Conducts follow-up inspections
  • Manages, directs, and approves required new or renovated Food Establishment Plan Review
  • Plans, initiates, conducts and studies food borne illness investigations
  • Maintains and tracks food program database and web application
  • Collects, compiles, and summarizes investigative findings

Implements and Maintains Vector Control Program in accordance with

  • Receives vector control complaints and conducts timely initial inspections.
  • Coordinates inspections with associated inspectors and collaborates with recommendations on corrective actions.
  • Documents and monitors related data and complies with HIPAA rules and procedures
  • Plans and schedules follow-up inspections
  • Ensures pest control contracts are put in place, where warranted
  • Maintains and updates database of pest control contracts

Serves an emergency response role as assigned by Administrator/Health Officer according to Department plans and procedures and may include varying hours from the regular Department hours.
Maintains current on food safety and vector control issues and new technologies, and researches new and revised standards. Periodically attends seminars and meetings.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: (Full criteria/preferences provided with receipt of application)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in food service, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, environmental science, liberal arts, or related field

Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience considered.

  • Three (3) years of prior related work experience and/or training regarding statutes, regulations, ordinances, public health principles, communication skills, microbiology, epidemiology, and/or HACCP.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain required current certifications/training/licenses, including but not limited to ISDH/FDA Food Program Inspection Officer, Food Handler Instructor, ISDH Food Inspection Standardization, Industrial Pest Managment/OISC Category 7a and Mosquito Management/OISC Category 8.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity to evaluate information against measurable or verifiable criteria
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to testify in legal proceedings/court
  • Ability to regularly travel out of town for inspections and conferences and occasionally work extended evening, weekend hours and respond to emergencies from an off-duty status
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record

This position Protects, Prevents and Promotes Public Health in alignment with the Indiana Department of Health. Clinton County Health Department is guided by Board of Health and directed by Health Officer of Clinton County. Position reports directly to Public Health Administrator.

Pay: $48,248.00 - $53,599.00 per year
