Description
Description Job ID AF9918-0505-1896 Position Classification FT Administrator Position Summary The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Clinical Fellows Program seeks applicants for a fellowship in its Environmental Law Clinic. This is an in-person, two-year appointment. The Detroit Mercy Law Environmental Law Clinic is a partnership between Detroit Mercy Law and the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center. The Clinic is taught and directed by the Center’s Executive Director, an environmental law attorney and expert in the field. The Center is a Detroit-based nonprofit that seeks to protect air, land, and water for our communities by providing legal services to low-income residents and non-profit environmental organizations in Michigan and the Great Lakes region. We create solutions to environmental issues impacting the health and quality of life of our communities. The Center and Clinic work for sustainable, healthy, and vibrant communities where people have clean air to breathe, safe and affordable water to drink, and beautiful, natural spaces for recreation. Currently, the Center’s work focuses on five primary environmental issues: air quality; drinking water quality and affordability; clean rivers, lakes, and streams; the sustainable re-use of vacant land in urban areas through things like urban agriculture and renewable energy, and promoting and advocating for state and federal agencies to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. In the Clinic, students learn how to affect regulatory policy at the local, state, and federal levels and apply environmental law and policy to client matters and to solve emerging environmental problems. Students work on Center matters and impact litigation in agencies, legislatures and state and federal courts. The course focuses on client issues related to air pollution, water pollution, environmental justice, transportation, and citizen suit enforcement.
