What you’ll be doing

As Environmental Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting organisational E&S visits & investigations.
  • Support internal project tenders and commercial team in advancing the contract.
  • Produce business cases, develop Involved plans, measure outcomes, collate data, undertakes analysis – return analysis and report to HSES Lead Manager and Operational Teams.
  • Understands legal and BMS / EMS requirements, ability to use specific sustainability tools, able to explain policy issues and interactions.
  • Deliver value adding environment projects and support ecological enhancements.
  • Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters of environmental management and sustainability.
  • Lead in development and maintenance of environmental management plans and environmental risk assessments.
  • Provide on-site advice to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance and project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence – lead on serious investigative matters.
  • Instrumental in the implementation of the project environmental management systems on project sites, advising the HSES Lead on strategy and best course of action.
  • Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks and undertake onsite coaching.
  • Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g., case studies, environmental performance, monthly reports, project level reports etc.
  • Support assurance activities, facilitating external audits by clients and certification bodies.
  • Assist in the development and production of key performance indicators and management reports.
  • Support and assist in the management and development of the E&S Adviser where applicable

Who we’re looking for

The following skills and experience are required:

  • Water management experience, with knowledge of conditions arising from mining, tunnelling ground disturbance, civils works activities.
  • CDM knowledge / experience – particularly in the role of the Principal Contractor and Client. Ability to demonstrate working alongside Contractors in the supply chain.
  • Strong knowledge of environment management and sustainability issues.
  • Educated to degree level in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or similar applicable subjects to role.
  • Thorough knowledge of British Environmental Legislation.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licences and consent applications and regulators.
  • Understanding of ecological matters and environmental law including PLANC management and implementation / derivation of necessary conditions and requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial functions of large / major / mega projects – how to interpret the effects of and implement the requirements of works information.
  • Demonstrable experience in producing, implementing, and monitoring Environmental Management Plans.
  • Understanding of the Civil/Construction operating environment.
  • PIEEM or Practitioner IEMA Membership (experience and alternative accreditations will be considered).
  • Mammal Observer / Management.
  • Biodiversity experience.

The following experience is desirable:

  • Environmental Lead Auditor qualification
  • Drilling experience
  • Heavy lift experience
