Description Want to see your work make a real difference? Our Environmental Permitting Team sits at the intersection of engineering sustainability and real-world problem solving. You will help bring infrastructure projects to life through the New England communities while protecting natural resources and navigating environmental regulations. BETA Group, Inc. is looking for a hands-on Environmental Intern looking to learn how projects move from concept to construction, working alongside experienced engineers and environmental professionals. Responsibilities: Help secure environmental permits that allow civil engineering projects to proceed to construction Contribute to permit applications and environmental review documentation Participate in site visits for construction compliance, wetland delineations, and stream assessments Learn how environmental regulations shape infrastructure and development projects Track permit approvals and support project schedules Apply classroom knowledge to real-world environmental challenges Support a variety of active projects across both design and construction phases Contribute to project tasks and deliverables while developing new technical skills Collaborate with and learn from experienced engineers, planners, and environmental staff Take initiative in your learning by asking thoughtful questions and actively engaging with your team Preferred location is BETA’s Worcester, MA office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. Growth Opportunities: BETA encourages and promotes employee advancement and career development Could lead to future full-time employment Requirements Required Experience/Skills : Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology or related field Understanding of general environmental assessment and response actions Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.) Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to plant inventories and stream widths Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow) Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Preferred Experience/Skills : OSHA Certification(s) About BETA: BETA Group, Inc. is a New England based consultant engineering firm and leader in the fields of transportation, traffic, structural, civil/site, and water/wastewater engineering; landscape architecture; urban design and planning; GIS/asset management; environmental sciences and permitting; and construction services. Responsibilities
The intern will assist in securing environmental permits necessary for civil engineering projects to move into construction and will contribute to drafting permit applications and environmental review documentation.
