Are you ready to lead high-impact conservation programs in one of California’s most dynamic regions? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking a strategic and experienced environmental leader to join our South Coast Region (SCR) management team. As the Environmental Program Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role under the direction of the Regional Manager (C.E.A), overseeing 2 key regional programs: Wildlife Biodiversity and our Lands Program. You will supervise a high-performing team of Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisors and Specialists, and manage complex initiatives across a five-county region.
Ideal Candidate Will Have: Extensive experience leading environmental programs and supervising multidisciplinary teams. Proven success navigating complex policy, political, and stakeholder landscapes. Strong working knowledge of state and federal natural resource laws and funding programs. Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and risk management skills. A collaborative and forward-thinking leadership style, with a commitment to public service. Minimum Qualifications:Must meet the qualifications for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) classification or higher.Demonstrated experience in managing environmental programs, staff supervision, and public agency coordination.Experience overseeing grants, contracts, and large budgets preferred.

Working Conditions
The office location will be at the San Diego or Seal Beach Office. Availability and willingness to work flexible hours (evening meetings, Saturday/Sundays events, holidays), travel overnight, participate in field activities that require hiking in uneven and/or steep terrain in inclement weather, and to work for hours at a time in front of the computer, at meetings or in traffic situations going to and from meetings or field visits.
