JOB OVERVIEW
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Water (BOW), Water Pollution Control, Permit, Municipal A Unit is seeking to hire an Environmental Protection Engineer IV (Working Supervisor). This position will supervise an office or field engineering staff (approx. team of 5-8) in conducting technical studies and investigation of environmental control problems that require the application of a small to moderate sized subordinate staff or involve facilities and systems that are not diversified in scope or of a highly complex related to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems. The ideal candidate will have experience working with municipal, consulting, construction engineering and technical personnel in the design, construction, location, maintenance and operation or improvement of water pollution control facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a bachelor’sdegree in an engineering science. Typically, the subject matter would involve the type of coursework associated withenvironmental (sanitary, hydraulic, hydrology, and air pollution specialties), civil (sanitary, hydraulic, and hydrologyspecialties), general, industrial, mechanical, chemical, public health, electronic, acoustical, or aeronautical engineering orengineering mechanics or a closely related engineering specialty.
- Requires possession of Illinois certificate as a registered professional engineer.
- Requires four years of professional engineering experience related to working with complex engineering problems.
- A master’s degree in engineering or business administration may be substituted for two years of professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (IN ORDER OF SIGNIFICANCE)
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience to supervising the activities of a technical staff in a private or publicorganization.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience explaining and interpreting permitting laws, policy, and regulations in a publicor private organization.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience in interpreting and applying relevant laws, rules and regulations pertaining toissuance of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience consulting with and advising members of public and private organizationsconcerning the application of engineering standards and procedures to design, construction, operation and maintenance offacilities and systems for the control of environmental conditions.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience reviewing and evaluating permitting reports for completeness and accuracy ofengineering detail.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience developing and maintaining effective public working relationships.
- Prefers experience utilizing a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS (USED FOR CERTAIN BU EMPLOYEES ONLY)
- Of the four years’ required experience: requires four years’ experience in the review and issuance of National PollutantDischarge Elimination System (NPDES) permits; experience in preparing, reviewing, or approving construction/operatingpermits; experience in applying relevant State and federal laws, rules and regulations.
