PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Natural Sciences Department at Eastern Mennonite University invites applications for a tenure-track or non- tenure-track assistant professor in Environmental Science and Biology. Grounded in EMU’s commitments to active faith, peace and justice, academic excellence, and sustainability and stewardship, the Natural Science department emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, and community building. Join a vibrant and collaborative faculty who emphasize mentored, hands-on research and real-world problem solving, with recent successes including a $2 million NSF S-STEM grant supporting STEM scholarships and research that expand access and belonging for students from diverse backgrounds. POSITION: Tenure-track or non-tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Environmental Science and Biology programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field. College-level teaching and/or post-doctoral experience preferred. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of instructor. RESPONSIBILITIES:  * Teaching load may include undergraduate courses in environmental science, ecology, organismal biology, GIS, environmental policy and ethics, and the potential for electives within the candidate’s area of expertise. Typical load is 3-4 courses per semester (9-month contract, 24SH per year). * A tenure-track position requires the development of an ongoing, scholarly research agenda  that can involve undergraduate students. * Department and university service is expected in the form of advising and mentoring a diverse student body into a variety of science careers, with an emphasis on environmental science and environmental biology-focused majors. * Provide faculty service to EMU at the departmental and university levels. * Department and university service is expected in the form of advising and mentoring students and participation on university committees.  * Eastern Mennonite University (http://www.emu.edu [http://www.emu.edu/]), situated in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and the surrounding beautiful Shenandoah Valley, is a vibrant, private liberal arts university. POSITION DETAILS: Nine-month contract. 24 semester hours per year. Salary is determined by education and experience. Eastern Mennonite University uses a tenure-with-review contract system.
