JOB DESCRIPTION

The Environment team in Burnaby is looking for an Environmental Scientist to assist in environmental investigation programs such as environmental drilling investigation, soil, groundwater and soil vapour sampling. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other scientists and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The position will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects with a focus on field work.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support a wide range of environmental investigation and remediation projects.
  • Contribute directly to the preparation of technical project deliverables (e.g., groundwater reports, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, remedial investigations).
  • Conduct soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion sampling
  • Job duties will involve both field work and office assignments with some overnight travel required within the province/country.
  • Actively communicating with the technical team and Project Manger

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or environmental engineering
  • Experience: 2+ years if the degree is technical

Preferred Skills :

  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

    • Valid Canadian Drivers License
  • 2 years of experience preferred
  • Possess good writing skills in English
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfort with technology, apps and databases
  • Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work
  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others
  • Physically capable of completing field work in urban and rural settings.
  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells
  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures
  • Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation
  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.
  • Strong interest and appetite to learn about the Environment business and marketplace
