Job Description
GEO Morphix is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Scientist to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in field methods and environmental data analysis, who is looking to grow their technical and project coordination skills within a collaborative consulting environment.
The successful candidate will support a variety of projects related to stream assessment and restoration, erosion monitoring, and fluvial geomorphology, with responsibilities spanning from fieldwork to data interpretation and technical reporting. This position offers opportunities for cross-disciplinary work and career development toward a P.Geo. designation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support field programs involving geomorphic assessments, monitoring, and environmental sampling
  • Install monitoring equipment (e.g., water level loggers, turbidity sensors), ensuring accurate and continuous data collection
  • Conduct topographic surveys using RTK, total stations, and other tools
  • Compile, process, and analyze field data to identify trends and assess physical processes
  • Support or conduct geomorphic modelling to assess channel behavior and sediment transport
  • Interpret geomorphic conditions using aerial imagery, historical data, and mapping tools
  • Prepare technical reports, deliverables, and supporting figures for client submissions
  • Maintain strong field documentation and contribute to quality of data and deliverables
  • Support proposal writing, work planning, and project logistics as needed

Qualifications

  • Degree or master’s degree in environmental science, geomorphology, physical geography, earth sciences, geography, or a related field
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) through PGO
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, field investigations, or environmental monitoring programs
  • Working knowledge of fluvial geomorphology and physical processes in rivers, streams, and watersheds
  • Proficient in field data collection, including use of GPS, survey equipment, and environmental sensors
  • Strong data analysis skills using Excel, GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), and other processing tools (e.g., R, Python, or MATLAB is an asset)
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
  • Experience with geomorphic modelling is an asset
  • Valid G driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork

Job Status: Permanent, salaried, full-time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
Travel: Occasional travel to field sites in Ottawa region
