The P JW WATER & HAZARDOUS MATERIAL Department of the P ENVIRONMENTAL Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional) This posting seeks to fill at either the Environmental Scientist or Sr Environmental Scientist level; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and procedures in designated area of environmental responsibility as related to environmental management of electric utility facilities.
- Working knowledge in designated area of environmental responsibility of the principles and practices of environmental management, environmental technologies, environmental regulations, project management, and program management associated with electric utility facilities and systems, normally acquired through several years of experience in professional environmental management.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant science, public health or engineering discipline. Graduate degree strongly preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced level of computer and software knowledge including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database software.
- Working knowledge of company contract management and contract administration policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement principles, procedures, tools, and desired behaviors.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communications skills, and interpersonal skills, in order to work effectively with all levels of the company, with consultants and contractors, governmental agencies, community groups, and customers.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Several (3 to 5) years of experience in technical and regulatory matters within the designated area of environmental responsibility.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant science, public health, or engineering discipline. Graduate degree strongly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License may be required, based on program managed and/or regulatory requirements.
- Thorough knowledge in water and hazardous materials and related power plant engineering principles and practices of environmental management, environmental technologies, environmental regulations, project management, and program management associated with electric utility facilities and systems, normally acquired through multiple years of experience in professional environmental management. Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures as related to environmental management of electric utility facilities and systems, including but not limited to the areas of water, soil, and hazardous materials.
- Intermediate to advanced level of computer and software knowledge (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, graphics, and other specialty software such as GIS).
- Working knowledge of Company contract management and contract administration policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement principles, procedures, tools, and desired behaviors.
