VHB’s Natural Science group in our growing Providence, RI office is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Environmental Scientist to join us in a hybrid capacity.
As an Environmental Scientist, you will be an integral part of our team, conducting vital surveys, preparing impactful reports, and navigating the complex world of environmental permitting. This position offers the unique opportunity to apply your expertise to help our clients make informed and environmentally sound decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a related field required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional environmental consulting experience required
  • Fieldwork: Ability and willingness to work in physically challenging outdoor situations in all weather conditions, with regular travel to project sites in southern New England.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in plant species identification and soil characterization in the Northeast, and the ability to identify and describe wildlife habitats and ecological communities.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with state and federal wetland regulations, land use environmental regulations, and environmental permitting.
Responsibilities
  • Field Surveys & Assessments: Conduct natural resource surveys including wetland delineations, wildlife habitat evaluations, and rare species surveys.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare comprehensive studies and technical reports, including environmental impact statements and assessments.
  • Permitting & Compliance: Develop federal, state, and local permit applications and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Ecological Studies: Design and conduct studies on key ecological issues to support public and private sector clients.
  • Client Communication: Maintain ongoing dialog with clients to keep them apprised of project status and any changes in conditions.
  • Project Management: Establish and track project milestones and business goals, manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables, and supervise junior staff.
