WHAT YOU BRING, YOUR EXPERTISE AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST

  • B.A. in Environmental Science, B.S. in Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of related experience.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour with current 8-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER annual refresher.
  • NYSDOL-Certified Asbestos Building Inspector, strongly preferred.
  • NYSDOL certifications including Asbestos Air Monitor, Project Designer, or Mold Assessor a plus.
  • Willing to travel and work 10+ hour field days in peak season.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PDF; experience with ArcGIS/View, Survey123 preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of sampling methods and environmental regulations and guide documents.
  • Ability to read plans and understand building systems (HVAC, insulation, products).
  • Experience reading and understanding GIS mapping, contour mapping, and data driven plume mapping.
  • Ability to direct contractors, drillers, and other field subcontractors during field projects.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST

  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), due diligence investigations, and compliance audits in accordance with ASTM standards.
  • Perform field inspections, including sampling of soil, water, and air; well monitoring; and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.
  • Oversee subcontractors during field activities with minimal supervision and coordinate effectively with laboratories for sample submission and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Conduct compliant asbestos building inspections, quantifications, draft reporting, and project air monitoring.
  • Conduct compliant materials inspections for lead paint, PCB-caulk, mold, and universal waste.
  • Prepare technical reports, analytical data tables, and collaborate on GIS mapping for project documentation.
  • Serve as Site Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and training requirements.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support abatement-phase construction administration.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions
  • Ensure QA/QC standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in developing asbestos abatement designs, specs, and renovation/demolition project documents.

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time and distance.

  • Must be able to access and navigate construction sites and job areas.
  • Must pass respirator medical clearance and respirator fit test.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator for required work, occasionally for extended periods of times.
  • Must be comfortable wearing project-specific level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as Tyvek suits, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, and steel toe boots.
  • Must be able to work in environmental conditions including office environment, field environment, construction site environment; exposure to dust, noise, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions when working in the field
