Description

Environmental Specialist
The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for assisting Environmental Supervisors and Project Leaders with a variety of tasks supporting environmental compliance and project execution. Knowledge of environmental procedures, regulations, and management techniques related to hazardous substances will be key. Continuing education and learning opportunities will be provided to enhance knowledge of these waste management activities and substation construction activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect projects within customer territory at the direction of Supervisor(s) and Manager to ensure compliance withproject plans and permits.
  • Perform and coordinate material sampling for the presence of hazardous substances.
  • Utilize mobile GIS programs for mapping environmental features and logging inspection points.
  • Coordinate sediment and erosion control installation and maintenance to specification.
  • Complete inspection reports and communicate action items to project team.
  • Install environmental signage identifying sensitive resources at project sites.
  • Develop detailed waste management plans outlining construction wastes and disposal plans.
  • Coordinate with and supervise vendors and subcontractors to manage and dispose of materials.
  • Assist with environmental orientation for new hires and conduct training for construction crews.
  • Identify restoration requirements and coordinate with crews to complete site stabilization.
  • Perform routine environmental audits and behavioral based safety observations.
  • Document environmental good catches or near misses.
  • Audit presence of spill kits with crews and deliver supplies, as needed.
  • Work safely and evaluate project sites for presence of all safety life guards

Requirements:

  • High school education and two or four-year environmental-related degree required.
  • Individual must be able to work independently, be flexible with daily work hours (including occasional early mornings),work on multiple jobs simultaneously, and fulfill all job requirements within a timely fashion.
  • Safe driving record and habits are a requirement of employment as a significant volume of driving will occur.
  • Desire to learn and grow personally and professionally and work well within a team environment.
