Description

Amentum is seeking an Environmental Technician in the Las Vegas, NV area.

MINIMUM POSITION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Completion of high school or the equivalent is required.
  • Completion of specialized courses in the environmental field is desired.
  • The ability to read and write, and to comprehend technical data is required.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Position requires travel.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all company directed certifications and training classes.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including forklifts, lift gates trucks, and/or light trucks, to collect waste containers or waste from waste site and collection containers.
  • Computer skills desired include Maximo, SharePoint, and Microsoft programs.
Responsibilities

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Protects human health and the environment by ensuring compliance with Federal, State and local directives and assists in managing the Environmental, Safety, and Enterprise Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Management Information System (EESOH-MIS)/AF-EMIS system. Tasks are performed under general supervision, coordinating activities with the senior technician.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts safety and environmental technical inspections and general safety and environmental management functions.
  • Performs the collection, cleanup, consolidation and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste utilizing material handling, safety and personal protective equipment; receives, identifies, classifies, segregates and samples waste for storage and subsequent transportation for disposal.
  • Exercises a complete knowledge of safety and environmental regulations pertaining to the management and disposal of hazardous wastes in accordance applicable federal, DoD, DOE, AF, state, county, and local laws, regulations, or policies.
  • Reports incidents and makes corrections according to defined procedures; responds to spills and carries out emergency response procedures.
  • Establishes internal waste stream profiles in accordance with applicable federal, DoD, DOE, AF, state, county, and local laws, regulations, or policies.
  • Operates pumps for transferring chemicals and filling containers; inspects and monitors container integrity and facility condition for leakage, proper labeling and safety compliance.
  • Completes and verifies Hazardous Waste shipment forms.
  • Performs hazardous material field identification, inspects and monitors waste accumulation areas, maintains daily logs using manual and automated system, plans and schedules, directs and coordinates Hazardous Waste shipments, and orders equipment and supplies.
  • Pumps and coordinates shipment of items including, but not limited to, recoverable liquid petroleum products, used antifreeze, used oil, kitchen oil and spent lead-acid batteries.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
