North Rock Engineering is seeking a qualified Environmental Scientist/Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will work within our highly skilled team of environmental, water resources, civil and survey consulting professionals in our Thunder Bay, Ontario office. For this position, we are seeking a dynamic, organized, self-motivated professional with excellent interpersonal skills and strong communications and report writing skills. JOB DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will provide support to our senior environmental and engineering teams by assisting and completing a wide variety of tasks including soil and groundwater sampling programs, phased environmental site assessments, site remediation, data collection and tabulation, and field and office reporting. The candidate will be working with and training directly under senior environmental staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must hold a valid University Degree or College Diploma in one of the following fields of study: Engineering, Science, Environment, Hydrogeology, Geology, or a related field of engineering or science. The following minimum requirements also apply:

  • Able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Willing and able to travel with some out-of-town work
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.00-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Responsibilities

A summary of the key responsibilities associated with this position will include the following:

  • Assist and/or complete environmental, hydrogeological, hydrological, and engineering field investigation and remediation work under the mentorship of our senior technical staff.
  • Respond to, investigate, and remediate environmental spill sites.
  • Complete groundwater monitoring programs at waste disposal sites.
  • Collect soil, groundwater and surface water samples for field testing purposes and potential laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain clear and concise field notes and site plans/sketches.
  • Work with a wide range of environmental field equipment.
  • Communicate with senior staff, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Collect field and laboratory data and tabulate data relative to applicable criteria.
  • Work with various software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Work in remote areas for extended periods of time.
  • Prepare written correspondence including emails, memos, letters and reports.
  • Complete field safety meetings and conduct work safely.
  • Log soil and groundwater during drilling of boreholes and installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Prepare reports under Ontario Regulation 406/19 Excess Soils legislation and Ontario Regulation 153/04 Record of Site Condition legislation.
