OVERVIEW

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Technologist to join our team in Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
As our Environmental Technologist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS

  • Previous environmental consulting experience is an asset;
  • Previous Site Supervisor Safety Training (SSST) is an asset;
  • Ground disturbance/CSO/H2S training is an asset;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English is required;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. spreadsheet and word-processing);
  • Strong organizational skills, record keeping, and attention to detail; and,
  • Strong safety awareness.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executing field investigations including environmental site assessments, soil monitoring programs, and soil management programs comprising environmental drilling, test pitting, or hand augering;
  • Installation of groundwater wells including in-situ remediation wells and conducting in-situ hydraulic conductivity testing;
  • Conducting groundwater monitoring and sampling programs;
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting groundwater remediation systems;
  • Supervising and directing contractors for site remediation projects;
  • Collecting building material samples for hazardous building materials surveys;
  • Sampling air and soil vapour;
  • Processing field and laboratory data;
  • Applying and interpreting regulatory guidelines and standards including Alberta Tier 1 and 2 guidelines;
  • Preparing technical reports; and,
  • Liaising with project managers, client representatives, and subcontractors.
