Design Manager - Lead Major Rail Projects from Day One Expression of Interest UGL is home to one of Australia’s largest in-house engineering teams, delivering complex transport and infrastructure projects nationwide. This full time permanent position will be based out of Brisbane’s CBD and your first assignment will be to support a major greenfield rail project in South East Queensland. This next stage of work involves delivering new dual-track rail, tunnels, stations and stabling infrastructure, a largescale expansion that will help shape the region’s long-term transport network. About the role As Design Manager, you’ll lead the coordination and delivery of rail systems design, with a strong focus on signalling and integration across disciplines. You’ll work closely with engineering teams and delivery partners to plan, manage and align design outcomes, ensuring everything is practical, buildable and ready for delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape early design strategy, coordinate resources across disciplines, support bid-phase and early-stage design development, and drive safety in design through collaborative reviews. You’ll set the foundations for successful delivery from day one. Key responsibilities Lead and coordinate rail systems design. Develop design management plans and align multi-discipline delivery. Support bid-phase design development planning. Drive safety in design and participate in interdisciplinary reviews. Ability to work across multi-discipline teams and complex interfaces. Confidence managing stakeholders and influencing outcomes. A practical mindset, balancing technical design with real-world delivery.
