Principal Engineer – Mechanical - Major QLD Rail Projects Expression of Interest UGL is home to one of Australia’s largest in-house engineering teams, delivering complex transport and infrastructure projects nationwide. Based out of Brisbane’s CBD, you’re first assignment will be to support a major greenfield rail project in South East Queensland. This next stage of work involves delivering new dual-track rail, tunnels, stations and stabling infrastructure, a largescale expansion that will help shape the region’s long-term transport network. About the role As Principal Engineer – Mechanical, you’ll lead the delivery of mechanical design across the project, ensuring systems are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. You’ll work closely with design, engineering and delivery teams to plan and coordinate mechanical systems, supporting both early-stage design and ongoing delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll provide technical direction, support design development and drive quality outcomes across complex rail systems, helping set the foundations for successful project delivery from day one. Key responsibilities Lead mechanical design across the project, from concept through to delivery. Develop and review mechanical design documentation, calculations and specifications. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design outcomes. Ensure compliance with standards, safety requirements and project specifications. Strong background in mechanical design within rail or infrastructure environments. Experience working across design and delivery phases on major projects. Strong knowledge of mechanical standards, systems and compliance frameworks. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
