We are seeking an Epidemiology and Outbreak Specialist to support our international field operations and disaster responses by serving as lead for outbreak and infectious disease surveillance, monitoring, preparation, readiness, implementation, and networking.

Responsibilities

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide supervision of Infectious Disease/Health Information Specialist
  • May provide infectious disease supervision or mentoring during DART deployments.
  • Supports interviewing, training, and development of staff during responses.
    Job Location: North Wilkesboro, NC
    Type: Full-Time
    Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required)
    Travel Expectations: Up to 30% of time. Required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary.

In the role of Epidemiology and Outbreak Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
  • Conduct continuous global surveillance of infectious disease events/outbreaks and provide updates and projections to leadership, field offices, and responses.
  • Advise on epidemiological aspects of proposal development and program implementation for country offices, regional responses, and DART responses.
  • Deploy as Team Lead and/or Technical Specialist in support of country offices, projects, and infectious disease/outbreak responses.
  • Maintain Infectious Disease Outbreak Dashboard in order to provide country-level outbreak data 24/7.
  • Engage with the global community and international organizations (i.e. WHO technical working groups, GOARN, EIOS) in areas related to infectious disease.
  • Promote Samaritans Purse within the humanitarian sector through development of publications and presentations that highlight current health programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices for outbreak and endemic infectious diseases.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver disease-specific training and resources.
  • Provide direction, vision, and strategies for future epidemiological and outbreak-related programming and response.
  • Support CBRN preparedness (bioterrorism and radiation response).
  • Provide emergency response teams with infectious disease risk mitigation strategies to ensure the health and wellbeing of staff and volunteers.
  • Support all staff and volunteers experiencing blood borne pathogen exposure while deployed on behalf of the ministry (PEP protocol).
