Overview Equestrian Wrangler/Trail guide is a full-time or part-time position at Boyne Mountain. Wranglers lead guests on trail and pony rides and as well as provide daily care for the livestock including feeding, watering, grooming, saddling, cleaning tack, and maintaining the Equestrian Facilities. We're looking for people with a drive to ensure every guest leaves with a great experience! Responsibilities As an Equestrian Center Wrangler, your responsibilities include: Provide safe handling, feeding and care for livestock (variety of horses) according to Boyne Equestrian Centre Standards : stock round bales in feeders and apply hay nets when necessary, administer pelleted feeds and supplements according to the feeding chart, ensure clean water supply; Perform daily welfare check, and general horse care: monitor temperament, body and hoof condition, check for injuries and abnormal behavior. Bath, clip, apply fly spray, monitor for health concerns. Perform routine treatment and basic first aid. Blanket as necessary and perform blanket checks. Maintain cleanliness of Equestrian facilities and equipment, including but not limited to: clean feed buckets and pans, daily hand-mucking of corral, cleaning lean-tos and pastures by hand and by machinery, weed whipping while using proper PPE, cleaning hay storage, feed and tack up areas. Hand-pick, drag, rake and brush-hog pastures and trails. Reseed pastures. Perform manual snow removal and sanding of key areas as needed. Conduct tack and helmet safety check and keep records in the Equestrian Log. Disinfect helmets. Periodically replace wood chips and fill dirt in corral, pastures and lean-tos. Groom and tack up horses for trail and pony rides according to Boyne Equestrian Centre Standards. Act as a lead or drag rider on trail rides, lead pony rides. Encourage repeat patronage. Provide guests with a warm welcome, safe and memorable riding experiences. Assist with waiver completion and helmet fitting. Provide brief orientations and clearly communicate with guests. Match riders with horses. Assist with mounting, strirrup fitting and dismounting. Provide friendly and precise instructions during the ride to ensure safety. Possess the ability to answer most guest’s questions. Is knowledgeable about all ride products and their times. Ponys when necessary. Acclimate new horses to the string and trails. Ensure all horses are ready for guests to ride. Qualifications Working knowledge of equine and bovine health, feeding, and behavioral principles Must be comfortable leading guests solo on trail rides and pony rides Ability to follow specific feeding and handling instructions for each animal Ability to follow grooming instructions according to standards Ability to administer first aid to animals Must be comfortable in the saddle riding a variety of horses and able to ride up to 4 hours a day Must be at least 18 years old Must possess a valid driver's license
