ABOUT US

BLT Construction, a trusted Canadian general contractor with 30+ years of experience, is hiring an Equipment Operator for our Sooke Development Team. You’ll be working on the SookePoint Ocean Cottages project — a luxury oceanfront resort on Vancouver Island overlooking the Salish Sea.
This hands-on role involves operating a telehandler (Zoom Boom) and Bobcat (skid steer) to support material handling, site prep, and general construction activities. We’re looking for a skilled operator with a strong work ethic, attention to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively on a dynamic job site.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating telehandlers and skid steers on active construction sites.
  • Valid equipment operator certifications (Telehandler/Zoom Boom and Skid Steer).
  • Valid driver’s license .
  • Strong knowledge of equipment capacities, construction safety, and site operations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work outdoors in varying conditions, and perform physical tasks.
  • Proficient in reading site drawings and understanding job instructions.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Own basic hand tools and full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Responsibilities
  • Operate a telehandler and Bobcat/skid steer for site grading, backfilling, debris removal, material handling, and lifting/placing construction materials.
  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance to ensure equipment safety and performance.
  • Assist with loading/unloading site deliveries and organizing materials.
  • Read and interpret site plans and construction drawings.
  • Monitor and track material inventory for BLT’s scope of work.
  • Set up and remove site protection materials (e.g., melamine sheets, drop cloths, plastic coverings).
  • Perform manual labor and general construction support tasks when equipment is not in use.
  • Maintain a tidy, safe, and organized job site at all times.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, ground crew, and trades using verbal instructions, radios, or hand signals.
  • Support the Site Superintendent in coordinating trades and scheduling onsite activities.
  • Follow all BLT Occupational Health and Safety Policies and help enforce compliance among subcontractors and trades.
