Description Job Purpose and Objectives: Responsible for operating all types of light equipment used in the placement of rock, asphalt, and dirt in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges for Montgomery County. One year of related experience and/or training 3. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Certifications / Licenses: 1. Class C Driver’s License 2. Ability to obtain a Class B CDL or a Class A CDL within one year of hire Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos 2. Understands the basic operation of farm tractors, loaders, pull-behind mowers, and skid steers used to clear and maintain right-of-way 3. Ability to learn current road construction and maintenance practices 4. Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work 5. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently 6. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner 7. Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment 8. Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously 9. Strong written and verbal communication skills 10. Cleans road surfaces and applies and rakes patching material Operates an engine-powered broom to clean road surfaces Assists with traffic control Loads and unloads equipment and material from trucks Operates a wheel loader in order to load and unload trucks Measures distances with a tape measure or other like apparatus. Assists in the repair, maintenance, and erection of signs, guardrails, box culverts, and bridges Works with asphalt and chip and seal crews as necessary Fastens attachments to equipment Secures equipment to trailers for safe transportation Operates chainsaw in a safe manner in order to remove trees from the right-of-way Uses hand tools such as a hammer, shovel, rake, or other tools used to maintain right-of-way Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic
