QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Grade XII or equivalent.
  • Shall have at least six months experience of related municipal utility work or six months experience in a Municipal Services Equipment Operator I position.
  • Shall possess a valid B.C. Driver’s Licence - Class 5 with Air Endorsement.
  • Shall be proficient and safely operate the following equipment within the Streets Division:
  • single axle truck
  • snow clearing sidewalk machine and attachments
  • small power/hand tools
  • sanding/salting equipment
  • asphalt recycler
  • crack sealer
  • Shall be capable of understanding, reporting verbally and by written report in English and accept and comprehend verbal instructions.
  • Shall undertake additional training in the correct operation of other equipment and to upgrade skills and abilities.
  • Shall have the ability to work with others as a team.

Responsibilities

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The incumbent is responsible for carrying out instructions as required within the Streets Division of the Municipal Services Department.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manual labour in construction, repair and maintenance within the Streets Division.
  • Shall be required to work shift work as scheduled, and overtime as required.
  • Shall be required to respond to call-out for emergency maintenance and repair work at short notice and work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Responsible for ensuring safe work practices used on the job site and assisting in the development of safer and more efficient methods of work.
  • Required to be trained and work at the Williams Lake Regional Airport.
  • Other duties as may be assigned to assist with the City’s day to day operations.
  • Maintain training records.
  • May be required to participate as a member of the Municipal Services standby group – on call rotation.
  • Responsible for assisting in the training of new employees to familiarize them with Municipal work.
