This role is a dynamic blend of skilled equipment operation and crew leadership. In the summer, you’ll operate a variety of equipment, performing essential maintenance to our urban forest. During the winter, you’ll step into a leadership role, overseeing crews engaged in snow and ice control operations across the city. You’ll be responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards, while also providing guidance, training, and support to your team. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions and priorities.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

  • Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in servicing and maintaining equipment

  • Considerable knowledge of safe equipment operation and occupational hazards

  • Ability to respond to inquiries/complaints in a conciliatory and sensitive manner
  • Ability to plan, schedule, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including employee mentoring and training, conflict resolution, and building common understanding
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work
  • Ability to complete task cards, work records, and interpret work assignments
