Job Details Job Location: Aylett, VA 23009 The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to assist in the construction of utility-scale solar projects. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment to move materials, prepare sites, and support the overall construction process. Key Responsibilities: Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, excavators, loaders, and forklifts. Maneuver equipment to ensure accurate removal and placement of materials. Clear and prepare construction sites by removing debris, rocks, and other materials. Level and grade land to ensure proper foundation for solar installations. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure optimal performance. Report any mechanical issues or repairs needed to the maintenance team. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow safety guidelines. Communicate effectively with site supervisors and other team members to coordinate tasks. Assist in the setup and dismantling of equipment as needed. Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and inspections. Complete daily logs and reports as required. Other duties as required Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials, often weighing up to 50 pounds or more. Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing and walking across uneven terrain. Climbing: Climbing ladders and scaffolding to access different parts of the installation. Bending and Stooping: Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to install and inspect components. Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling tools and small components. Weather Conditions: Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain. Safety Gear: Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Qualifications Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in the construction or renewable energy industry. Valid third party heavy equipment operator’s license or certification. Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures. Good communication and teamwork skills. Experience with utility-scale solar projects is preferred.
