Description:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience in leading the promotion of EDI at an executive level, including the formulation, development and implementation of EDI-related organisational strategies
  • Experience in assessing complex issues, problem solving, and defining and developing EDI-related solutions, systems and structures
  • Ability to apply sound personal judgement when communicating sensitive information and operate with discretion and confidentiality
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, adapts style and approach to the audience in formal and informal settings
  • Works well as part of a team or independently, comfortable when collaborating with different teams
  • Skilled in influencing and building consensus on strategies and directions for EDI related issues

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Postgraduate degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, or HR.
  • EDI certifications and/or CPHR designation
  • Extensive (5+ years) demonstrable experience in developing and implementing EDI practices and principles in complex environments, whilst maintaining currency with EDI research and best practices.
  • Substantial experience working with Indigenous Peoples and Truth and Reconciliation would be advantageous
  • Comprehensive understanding of, and demonstrable commitment to, current issues with respect to Indigenous engagement, within the framework of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action
  • Experience and comfort discussing anti-oppressive discourse and scholarship including areas such as anti-racism, intersectionality, feminism, critical race theory, queer studies, accessibility, trans rights, etc.
  • Experience and understanding of workplace accessibility barriers and strategies to overcome them. Experience in intervention science would be advantageous.
  • Understanding and experience of working within academic or research environments
  • Ability to participate comfortably in discussions on EDI with a broad and varied community, especially internationally
  • Experience navigating challenging conversations with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops, meetings, and educational sessions, with a mind to encourage effective, respectful dialogue
  • Draws on communication skills, as well as change and project management expertise to execute events and initiatives of varying scales
  • Anti-racism training would be considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the EDI strategy for TRIUMF in consultation with internal and external stakeholders, to develop and enhance EDI initiatives and programming
  • Advise and support the Leadership Team in the implementation of the EDI strategy throughout their Divisions
  • Maintain ownership of the TRIUMF EDI Action Plan, and support the organisation in delivery of these actions through appropriate internal connections
  • Report on progress in EDI matters to the Leadership team, relevant TRIUMF Board committees, external agencies, and other groups as appropriate
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Department and subject matter experts to deliver on TRIUMF’s EDI Action Plan items that align with HR programming.
  • Collaborate with other groups to coordinate EDI messaging and to promote EDI-related activities
  • Determines appropriate support structures required for EDI development
  • Chair the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee
  • Plan yearly EDI programming
  • Manage the implementation of activities, oversees budget, and develops processes, documentation and communication for program/process rollout and ongoing support
  • Support senior managers with advice and guidance to develop EDI practices within their groups
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Students and Post Doc Society (GAPS) Committee
  • Collaborate with member universities and external partner organizations to build a collection of resources and learnings
