Position #: 9004615 (V49289) Expected Start Date: February 15, 2026 Union: SUN Facility: Regina General Hospital City/Town: Regina Department: Mental Health Supportive Services (EPN Team) Type: Full-time regular FTE: 1 Shift Information: Days, Nights, Weekends, Stats Hours of Work: 12 hour shifts Relief: No Float: No Field Hours: No Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Nurse B $42.040 to $52.440 Travel Required: No Job Description: The Emergency Psychiatric Nurse Coordinator, under the direction of the Inpatient Mental Health Manager, exercises independence in the provision of individualized assessment and care to patients in the ER with mental health and/or chemical dependency problems. The Emergency Psychiatric Nurse Coordinator will work closely with the emergency room physicians, on-call psychiatrists, the Mental Health Unit, Community Mental Health and Addiction Services and other Healthy Authority and community stakeholders to develop and deliver high quality services for person’s presenting to Emergency Services with mental health and addiction concerns. In addition, the incumbent provides patient and family education and support while the patient is in the emergency department and; acts as a role model and clinical resource re: management of psychiatric, intoxicated and aggressive patients. The Coordinator will be responsible for caregiver policy and procedures development such as clinical pathways. The incumbent is responsible to lead others through the development of a long-term vision for this position. This involves the research, development, coordination and evaluation of an integrated program. This nurse is also expected to work as a part of the emergency service team in providing care to other patients in the emergency department. Human Resources Exemption: No Education Graduate from an approved School of Psychiatric Nursing or graduation from an approved school of general nursing supplemented by recognized post-graduate training in psychiatric nursing. Current PART and CPR certification. Other Education and Training Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable Nursing diploma is acceptable Experience Minimum of three years recent experience in inpatient mental health services Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of major mental health disorders and addiction issues. Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrated competency in psychiatric mental health assessment. Knowledge of and experience with chemical dependency. Sound knowledge of mental health and addiction issues. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources available to patients with psycho/social, psychiatric and chemical dependency needs. Demonstrated knowledge of crisis assessment and intervention. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act. Working knowledge of the Saskatchewan Alcohol & Drug Services Program guidelines. Demonstrated ability to function independently, effectively and cooperatively in an integrated multidisciplinary team. Communicates effectively with patients and families. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively as a team member and mentor, with strong leadership skills are essential. Ability to problem solve with minimal supervision. Assertive and self-directed in developing appropriate plans and referrals for patients and families. Knowledge of best practices and outcome indicator development.
