Job Description: Under the supervision of nursing staff members, assists in providing nursing patient care, prepares records, and maintains a clean environment.  OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: Assures that each patient receives quality care. 1) Performs personal care according to requirements of the patient including dressing, bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as condition of patient warrants and as directed, feeding patient and collecting specimens. 2) Keeps room neat and tidy at all times, patient dry and free of secretions, and answers call lights in a prompt manner. 3) Performs procedures designed to prevent physical deterioration of the patient including positioning patient and giving skin care as directed, getting patient out of bed or ambulating as directed, working gently and handling patients with special conditions in the specified manner, and performing catheter care as directed.   Provides respect due to each patient, family, and co-workers. 1) Avoids unnecessary exposure during care. 2)  Speaks politely to and considers preferences of patients 3)  Includes patients in decision making. 4)  Introduces self and states why there. 5)  Refrains from engaging in casual conversation with co-workers in open areas in view of patients and visitors.   Participates in the patient care management. 1)  Reports important facts or observations to supervisor. 2)  Arrives on time and attends change of shift report and makes notes of facts that are important to nursing care. 3)  Assists in the transportation of patients.   Functions proficiently and maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures.   1) Documents vital signs, intake and output, and appropriate portion of admission history as directed. 2)  Assures that chargeable items are charged promptly and accurately   Assists with the overall maintenance and function of the unit. 1)  Assists in keeping the nursing station clean and tidy. 2) Performs cleaning duties in other areas like the utility rooms as assigned. 3) Ensures that supplies are not wasted and that chargeable items are charged for promptly and accurately.   OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS: 1. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters daily. 2. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere. 3. Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials. 4. Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital District.   JOB QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education: High School graduate or equivalent. 2. Personal Job-Related Skills Ability to read and write, effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions. 3. Licensure, Registry or Certification: CPR certification preferred. 4. Experience: Prior Work Experience: One year experience in a medical setting preferred. 5. Technical Training: Nursing Assistant course desirable. 6. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients.
