Additional voluntary benefits such as STD, LTD, etc. Job Summary The ER Health Unit Coordinator coordinates clerical activities and supports patient services. The coordinator will utilize clinical information systems to ensure accurate preparation and processing of patient documents, verify status information and confirm communications for doctors, nurses, patients, and family members to ensure effective operations of the unit. Essential Functions Assists and maintain administrative functions of the emergency department to facilitate flow of patients from door to discharge, admit, transfer. Prepares and processes hardcopy and computerized patient files by entering, sorting, and updating information to ensure that accurate and complete records are maintained for each patient. Utilizes AIDET in interactions with patient and family members. Reviews all EMR's for any orders that require initiation and notifies the nurse in a timely manner. Initiates, assembles and maintains the hard copy patient charts. Prepares these charts for HIM following patient discharge. Able to communicate effectively and efficiently for the delivery of safe and effective patient care. Follows National Patient Safety Goals as they apply. Maintains use of appropriate equipment and supplies. Unit stock and maintenance duties as established by the department. Acts quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency in the delivery of patient care. Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, all customers internal and external. May float to other departments as needed. Other duties as assigned. This is a nights position (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) Behavioral Standards Treats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions; displays a positive attitude. Collaboration/Teamwork Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program. Requirements Experience Must have one (1) year of healthcare experience -OR- - Must have one (1) year of related clerical experience Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Licensure/Certifications BLS within 30 days of hire required.
