eSafety’s Strategy, Engagement and Research Branch is looking to fill a number of APS 6 Policy Officer roles across two teams:

  • The Industry Insights and Enablement Team is focused on working with the technology industry to make online experiences measurably safer and is responsible for providing industry-related insights that enable eSafety’s regulatory operations. We achieve this through strategic industry engagement, gathering intelligence and conducting analysis on online safety practices across the technology ecosystem, and through the creation of Safety by Design resources for, and developed in collaboration with, industry.The Industry Insights and Enablement team is seeking two talented Policy and Engagement Officers to support its strategic objectives.
  • The Strategic Policy and Tech Futures Team promotes online safety by working to anticipate and address challenges in online safety policy and regulation, including those associated with emerging technologies, such as generative AI and immersive technology. We seek to influence the strategic direction of online safety policy, regulation, and legislation by providing subject matter expertise and advice on online harms, online safety, and new and emerging technologies. We engage across a variety of sectors and contribute to national policy, legislation and regulation related to online safety, technology, and cross-cutting issues. We also conduct horizon scanning and research on emerging online safety challenges and opportunities and provides strategic advice across the agency.The Strategic Policy and Tech Futures Team is seeking one talented Policy and Project Officer to support its strategic objectives.

  • Qualifications and/or experience in social sciences, policy, law, technology, human rights, international relations, or related fields.

  • Strong policy skills, with a knowledge or experience of online safety, technology policy, emerging technology, digital regulation or related area.
  • Strong research skills and capability to put forward evidence-based assessments and complex information clearly for a range of audiences.
  • Understanding of government and parliamentary processes and ways of working, including government decision-making processes and agency regulations.
