ESCORT CUSTODY OFFICER, BIRMINGHAM VEHICLE BASE - PECS

Permanent contract on a 38 hour per week contract, with regular overtime available although not guaranteed.
You will join on an hourly rate of £12.50 per hour (£24,700 per annum). In addition, rates of pay increase after 12 months service to £13.65 per hour (£26972.40 per annum)

WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

For this Escort Custody Officer role, it is essential you have relevant experience of either working in care or directly with children or young people, we provide you with a five-week comprehensive full time training programme followed by a full week of job shadowing. This ensures you will be fully prepared to take on the role and responsibilities of an Escort Custody Officer. We are looking for you to have the right behaviours to care for and help children; you will need empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations - we teach you the technical ‘stuff’ in the classroom.
A basic level of physical fitness and flexibility is however required so that you can carry out the role safely.

Responsibilities

As an Escort Custody Officer, you will be responsible for providing care and support to children or young people in custody whilst they are travelling to/from court or other locations outside of their custodial accommodation.

  • The Children and young people in our custody often come with complex needs and challenges, so it is important that we create a culture of care for them and that they have an engaging and positive experience during their time with us.
  • It will be your role to ensure they are treated fairly with dignity and respect whilst maintaining a controlled, safe, secure, and structured environment.
  • You have full responsibility for supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of those in your care, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing is a priority. Whilst in the court custody suite the children and young people will require an enhanced level of care and safeguarding
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is key as you complete relevant documentation in relation to the child or young person’s property, warrants, warnings, and movement details.
  • Assist in the assessment of the child or young person’s conduct, health and well-being and be ready to provide first aid if required
