Position Title: ESL
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 1:30pm (Follows Bridgeport Public Schools calendar)
Reports to: Executive Director
Essential Functions: Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet CASAS standards of competency.
Scope: Providing instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs) that is consistent and ensures students meet and exceed learning targets.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Ability to relate well to English Language Learners (ELL’s)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills * A sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELL’s
  • The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment
  • The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
  • The ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a teacher with a background in ESL/ELL education or you have acquired:
  • A TEFL/TESOL/TESL certification or an equivalent teaching degree with experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with ELLs
  • Ability to relate well to English Language Learners (ELL’s)
  • Active Virtus Certificate (May obtain after position is offered and accepted)
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $35,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
  • Providing instruction in English to ELL classes at assigned level that meets the CASAS standards of competency
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
  • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
  • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
  • Ability to proctor online testing and comprehension of data collection tools
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run and orderly and productive classroom environment
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interest of students
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
