Description
The Adult Education and Literacy (AELP) department provides English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses, citizenship preparation classes, computer literacy classes, and GED preparation for youth and adults 18+. AELP programs incorporate full wrap around services including job readiness, job placement, and college preparation. The goal of the program is to help youth and adults improve their English language proficiency, enhance literacy skills, gain citizenship, obtain their GED, and obtain or improve employment. Candidate will provide contextualized ESOL classes to English language learners. Candidate must be able to work independently and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be creative, organized, and committed to learner-centered, participatory education. The hourly rate for this position is $40/hour. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Meet with the class four times a week: Monday through Thursday Develop and teach an integrated and relevant, student driven ESOL curriculum that integrates technology, authentic assessment, and work readiness skills. Monitor, track and keep record of student time and attendance. Administer BEST Plus testing for all incoming and currently enrolled students. Participate in professional development and best practice sharing activities. Keep and maintain students’ progress through monthly case notes. Provide admin with lesson plans as needed. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High student retention rate and quality classroom instruction. Experience with lesson planning that integrates performance-based assessments and technology. Accurate BEST Plus 2.0 testing (preferred). Effective classroom management and community building. Effective sharing of best practices; accurate and timely completion of attendance reporting, weekly reporting, and student secondary gains reporting. Experience using technology to enhance learning. Dedication to creating an inclusive classroom. Must have superb presentation & classroom presence and be a dynamic instructor. Education and Experience/Training: BA/BS required, MA/TESOL, TESLA or CELTA preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Frech preferred. BEST Plus 2.0 Certification preferred. (training will be provided) At least two years’ experience required, preferably with new American adults or in family literacy. Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and electronic ESOL resources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Pay Rate: $40/hour
