Primary objective
Provide a high level of customer service to the public through the efficient administration of estates and the preparation of
wills in the office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in front counter and reception operations including written correspondence and telephone enquiries including
registration of wills and Advance Personal Plans.
2. Engage with stakeholders and service providers, undertake inquiries, and collect documentary evidence regarding
applications for administration of an estate under the Administration and Probate Act 1969 .
3. Administer estates of deceased people and legal and beneficial trusts, identifying beneficiaries and assets and realise,
liquidate and distribute estates.
4. Assist in the preparation of legal documents including applications for probate, letters of administration, wills and
Advanced Personal Plans.
5. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development, act
professionally at all times and operate within the boundaries of agreed policies and procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively, professionally and sensitively
with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds to establish positive relationships.
2. Good verbal and written communications skills including preparing information clearly and writing formal reports.
3. Knowledge and understanding of general guardianship and trustee activities, including management of trusts,
administration of estates, drafting of wills and Advance Personal Plans or ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.
4. Proven time management and organisational skills, with ability to work on agreed priorities, complete tasks and maintain
accurate records, with the flexibility to meet rapidly changing work demands.
5. Ability to respond to enquiries and analyse information with proven trustworthiness and confidentiality.
6. Ability to work independently and part of a team to prioritise workload and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
7. Proven ability to efficiently utilise computer systems such as Microsoft Office, financial management, trust accounting
and/or client.
8. management databases.
Desirable
1. Experience in working within legal and legislative frameworks, policies and standards relating to people with disability,
seniors/aged care, financial management and/or deceased estates.
2. Tertiary qualification in law, accounting, financial management, people services, business management or related field.
