This is a great opportunity to work for one of the UK’s Leading Civil Engineering and Building contractors.
Due to continued successful growth we are looking to strengthen our Estimating team. Based at the heart of our operations, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with our Commercial Director to support the financial performance and delivery of high-profile construction projects.
Pricing 2 to 3 projects at any one time, varying in value from 500K to 10 million. you will be responsible for the whole process from enquiry to submission.
Ideally you will have Experience with Industrial buildings, small/medium scale civil engineering projects, drainage and concrete structures. Working contract knowledge including NEC3 Options A and B, JCT, ICE Measurement CESMM and “builders quants”
Qualifications, a minimum of Civil Engineering and/or Quantity Surveying degree.
Estimating, from ‘first principles’ i.e. labour, plant, materials and subcontractors. Calculating outputs
Subcontract procurement Selection, enquiries, resolving queries, analysis to ensure compliant quotes for use in submissions
Suppliers, Liaison with buyers to obtain cost information for plant, materials and services

Responsible for preparing and submitting tenders and budgets, including obtaining supporting quotations for subcontract work, materials and plant. Responsible for supervising the work of junior staff, when required.
i. Receiving and checking enquiry documentation for completeness.
ii. Checking specification and contract conditions. If any onerous or special conditions identified, discuss these with line manager before proceeding further.
iii. Acknowledging receipt of tender to Client, where this is required.
iv. Preparing estimate and tender submission in line with tender enquiry and Company procedures.
v. Attending tender review meeting, and submitting tender.
i. Ensuring that all methods of construction incorporated within tenders are in compliance with the latest Company Health and Safety Policy, good practice, and current legislation.
ii. Ensuring that sufficient financial allowance is incorporated within the tender to allow construction to be undertaken in a safe manner.
iii, on site visits, complying with any safety requirements required by the Client, and always wearing all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
i. Visiting site to determine its nature and that of the surrounding area, with particular reference to access, public utilities (above and below ground), local conditions, and other factors that could influence the cost of undertaking the work.
ii. Liasing with the Client to ensure that a full understanding of their requirements is obtained.
iii. Liasing with the Contracts Department to obtain their assistance in determining suitable construction methods, and any other information that will improve competitiveness.
iv. If required, preparing quantities in sufficient detail to produce an accurate estimate of costs.
v. Selecting suitable sub-contractors for specialist trade activities, and obtaining quotations for inclusion within the tender.
vi. Obtaining, or agreeing, suitable material prices and hired plant rates for inclusion within the tender.
vii. Calculating appropriate rates for undertaking work activities, and collating these on a summary sheet together with an assessment of site overhead costs.
viii. preparing a resourced programme, and reconciling this with the summary sheet.
i. If the tender is successful, assisting in checking details of order.
ii. Preparing documentation for, and attending, handover meeting with Contracts Department.
i. Ensuring that all tenders are compiled in accordance with the Company Integrated Management System relevant to the Estimating function.
ii. Ensuring that sufficient financial allowance is made so that construction can be carried out in accordance with the Company Integrated Management System.
i. Ensuring that subordinate staff gain the necessary training/experience, and assisting them to become competent to undertake the duties required of them.
ii. Maintaining high standards of motivation and morale.
Representing the Company at all times and promoting good relations with the Client (and his representatives), sub-contractors, and the general public.
8. Commercial
Assisting at all times with the promotion of additional work for the Company, and ensuring that all transactions are carried out in a proper and professional manner.
Ensuring that all information received from Clients is treated as confidential, and maintaining privacy of all commercially sensitive documentation that is received, or produced. No information is to be disclosed to third parties without the express permission of a Director.
9. Communications
Maintaining good relationships with all parties, and disseminating all necessary information promptly. Maintaining records. Advising the Commercial Director of any significant developments that affect the submission of the tender, or relationships with the Client.
10, Limits of Authority
No tenders or budgets to be submitted without being reviewed by the Commercial Director or Managing Director.
