Description
Description Company Background & Summary Votaw Precision Technologies is a trusted leader in the manufacturing of complex precision components, assemblies, and systems for the aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. With a strong reputation for technical excellence, quality craftsmanship, and on-time delivery, Votaw supports some of the world’s most demanding programs through its advanced manufacturing capabilities. The company specializes in precision machining, fabrication, welding, and complex assembly operations for mission-critical applications. Votaw Precision Technologies is committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering best-in-class solutions to its customers. Fabrication programs succeed or fail on the accuracy of their labor estimates. For large-scale aerospace structures, even small errors in welding time, forming operations, or assembly sequences can cascade into schedule slips and cost overruns. This role ensures fabrication labor planning is precise and executable, safeguarding program performance and meeting the exact demands of aerospace and defense customers. The Estimator – Fabrication develops highly accurate labor forecasts for large-scale, tight-tolerance weldments and assemblies exceeding 10 feet in length. This role demands direct experience in fabrication and welding, complemented by strong CNC programming and machining knowledge. The Estimator will interpret complex technical prints, assess the requirements of large fabricated and machined structures, and collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to deliver executable plans that support cost, schedule, and quality objectives. We recognize that talent development is crucial. If you do not meet all the listed experience requirements but have a solid foundational understanding of machining processes, a strong drive to learn, and are willing to invest the time and effort to grow in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment, we encourage you to apply. We are open to considering candidates for a Junior Estimator position with opportunities for growth and mentorship within the company. Essential Functions Interpret and analyze complex 2D/3D engineering drawings, 3D models, specifications, and statements of work to determine fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly labor requirements. Estimate time for welding (GTAW, GMAW, and precision processes), metal forming, sheet metal work, and large-structure assembly exceeding 10 feet. Incorporate logistical considerations including crane lifts, jig/fixture setup, and handling of oversized components. Apply CNC programming knowledge (minimum two years hands-on experience preferred) to validate machining labor estimates, particularly for large-part machining exceeding 40? in size. Factor in material properties, complexity, and inspection/NDT requirements to ensure accuracy. Leverage knowledge of advanced machining centers such as DMG MORI, TRIMILL, and CORREA to assess manufacturing feasibility and time requirements. Provide structured, data-driven labor estimate reports to management and program stakeholders. Monitor estimated versus actual labor data to refine forecasting accuracy and support continuous improvement. Requirements Qualifications and Skills Formal Education & Certification 10+ years of aerospace and defense fabrication experience, with direct involvement in large-scale, tight-tolerance weldments and assemblies. Knowledge & Experience Proven ability to estimate and plan high-mix, low-volume machining and fabrication projects. High proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T standards. CNC programming expertise (minimum two years hands-on experience); direct machining experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of aerospace materials and weldability, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and nickel alloys. Familiarity with advanced machining centers such as DMG MORI, TRIMILL, and CORREA. Proficiency in MS Office; ERP/MRP and estimating software experience a plus. Familiarity with AS9100 and aerospace manufacturing quality standards. Familiarity with the challenges and time requirements associated with manufacturing, moving, and assembling large-scale components requiring cranes, forklifts, and specialized rigging. Proven ability to break down complex projects into manageable tasks for accurate estimation. Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Process-oriented mindset with the ability to develop and follow standardized estimating procedures. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences, including engineers, shop floor personnel, and management. Ability to work effectively with many different personality types in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Experience with ERP/MRP systems and estimating software is a plus. A strong drive to learn and grow with the company, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ability to work on-site 5 days a week. Understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and inspection requirements. Understanding of aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100) is beneficial. Additional Requirements This position requires the use of information or access to hardware subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR. Personal Attributes Highly self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive in problem-solving and learning new technologies. Strong prioritization and execution skills in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Process-driven and disciplined, with a commitment to continuous improvement and company growth. Collaborative and effective communicator across technical, operational, and leadership teams. Work Conditions 40-hour onsite work week with on-call availability Sitting for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Votaw Precision Technologies, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer including Disability/Vets.
