ESTIMATOR – ICI CONSTRUCTION
n. Wallace & Company Ltd., a Construction Manager and General Constructor, is seeking personnel with integrity and experience in commercial, industrial and institutional construction for an Estimator position. Our projects typically range up to $20 million and are located occasionally out-of-town, but primarily throughout the Lower Mainland.
THE CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Relevant post-secondary education and experience
· A clear understanding of the construction process and the Master Format divisions of work
· Ability to interpret and read blueprints and specifications
· Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
· A strong work ethic with attention to detail
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
· Computer literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Project
· Experience with software such as Swiftender is an asset
· Resolve issues in a non-confrontational, relationship-oriented manner
· Follow through with assigned tasks and tasks assigned to others
· Complete all tasks in the time-line provided
· Ability to work individually and as part of a team
· Innovative and conceptual thinking
· Must be client service focused as we have a high repeat and referral client base
· Healthcare experience would be considered and asset
· Fluency in English

· Receive and review tender documents
· Use tendering software for trade invitations, document distribution and tracking
· Complete bid bond requests as required
· Complete Insurance estimate requests as required
· Set-up estimate files, i.e. estimate template, schedule, RFI and clarification letter
· Prepare other tender document submissions as required, i.e. personnel resumes
· Review drawings and specifications for direct cost items, constructability issues and discrepancies and issue RFIs as required
· Prepare and issue trade specific scope of work documents as required
· Attend pre-bid site visits and document existing conditions with photo and notes
· Review the site and determine requirements for access, temporary power, water, storm and other temporary facilities
· Review the site and determine existing hazardous conditions, i.e. power lines, neighbouring buildings, streams.
· Format estimate template for specific estimate, i.e. project title, date, required scopes of work, unit / separate / alternate pricing, tender summary as per tender documents.
· Complete quantity take-offs
· Issue pricing requests for company supplied items, i.e. concrete, aggregate, lumber.
· Complete costing of items taken-off
· Completion of preliminary schedules
· Follow up trade invitations discuss estimate with Trades, i.e. challenges, schedule duration and sequencing, delivery date, plug values, long lead items, critical milestones
· Review completed estimate, schedule, and tender documents with management
· Review and summarize trade bids for selection
· Close and submit tenders
· Follow up with tendering authority for bid results
· Provide post tender pricing / documents to clients as required
· If successful, transfer projects to the Project Manager, code estimate, import cost codes into accounting software, assist with trade reviews and awards.
· If unsuccessful, review estimate for areas that could be improved and incorporate into future estimates as applicable. Review and track bid results on projects when results are available.
· Assist or provide preconstruction services for Construction Management, preliminary budgets, schedules and proposals.
