SENIOR ESTIMATOR - CIVIL, SUBSTATION & UTILITY CONSTRUCTION

A leading infrastructure services provider operating across North America is seeking a Senior Estimator to support its civil, substation, and utility construction projects. This organization delivers essential construction and maintenance services in the power, oil & gas pipeline, gas distribution, and communications sectors. Known for its commitment to safety, quality, and innovation, the company plays a vital role in building and maintaining critical infrastructure.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely bid estimates ranging from $0 to $50 million for civil, substation, and utility construction projects. This role is instrumental in project planning, ensuring efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials, and subcontractors while meeting contract requirements and deadlines.
This position requires a strong understanding of construction estimating and cost control, along with adherence to the company’s project management methodology and safety/quality standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proven experience in construction estimating, including the ability to interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices and industry standards, particularly in civil, substation, and utility work.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with HeavyBid is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of internal project management training and/or formal coursework in project management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8-10+ years of relevant experience in construction estimating.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain detailed bid documentation using historical data, subcontractor input, and productivity analysis.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to verify conditions and support field teams with scope changes or change order development.
  • Ensure all bid deadlines and client presentation requirements are met.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of estimating guidelines, tools, and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members, presenting estimates and project details with clarity and influence.
