Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Provision’s goal is to drastically accelerate productivity in construction by eliminating avoidable disputes and wasted effort. Our platform organizes and extracts information from construction documents as a whole so constructors can save hundreds of hours per bid and increase margins. We are expanding the product to extend into the estimator workflow and we are looking for a seasoned estimator who wants to help us build a future where no estimates are wrong. Provision is an AI-native company. Every role uses AI to ship faster and make better decisions.
Funding: We are growing, well funded, and capitalized by some of the best operators in the space including PlanGrid, DroneDeploy, YCombinator, Sequoia Capital.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8 years in estimating, quantity surveying, or preconstruction with diverse project exposure, for example commercial, industrial, civil, or MEP.
  • Expert plan reading skills across architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
  • Working knowledge of CSI divisions, work breakdown structures, cost codes, and assemblies.
  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail with a bias to document assumptions and edge cases.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for both technical and executive audiences.
  • Tech fluent and AI driven. Experience with estimating and takeoff tools is a must (ProEST, Bid2Win, PlanSwift, STACK, etc.). Familiarity with Python or SQL is a plus but not required.
  • Creative, flexible, and comfortable shaping process in ambiguous spaces.
  • Passion for construction and eagerness to apply transferable skills to new tooling.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is not a traditional estimating role. You will use your expertise in quantity takeoffs, spec reading, and bidding to create high-fidelity datasets, design better ways to itemize scope, and validate AI that automates key parts of the estimator workflow. You will still prepare estimates when needed, but your primary output is trusted data, clear schemas, and measurable improvements in automation that scale across contractors who delegate to subcontractors.
You will partner closely with Data, Engineering, and Customer teams to turn estimator best practices into features that improve speed, accuracy, and risk control.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Analysis of plans, specs, addenda, and RFIs.
  • Complete detailed takeoffs for Divisions 02 to 33.
  • Create Class D to Class A estimates.
  • Build estimates in both MasterFormat and elemental breakdowns. Equivalent classification systems like Uniclass or NRM are welcome.
  • Prepare scope packages for subtrade tendering.
  • Collaborate with Data, Engineering, and Customer teams to convert real workflows into simple requirements and acceptance checks.
  • Identify and quantify risks, allowances, alternates, and assumptions that affect bids and budgets.
  • Build and curate datasets. Write clear labeling rules. Annotate quantities, inclusions, exclusions, and risks.
  • Create practical data models for spec sections, drawing callouts, trade packages, and GC to subcontractor delegation.
  • Decide how we check that AI pulled the right quantities. Count correct items, missed items, and wrong items. Report easy-to-read scores like percent correct and percent missed by trade and spec section.
  • Try better ways to package scope for subs and partners. Examples include checklists by space or system, tagged plan snippets, or tables that show inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and unit rates. Use whatever helps subs price faster with fewer gaps.
  • Write and maintain short playbooks. Include step-by-step instructions for dataset creation, reviewer checklists, and quality thresholds so anyone on the team can follow the same process.
  • Perform QA on extracted quantities and scope sheets. Diagnose failure modes and write clear reproduction steps.
  • Support customer pilots and internal studies that measure time savings and accuracy improvements.
  • Test internal tools and provide feedback to improve the product.
  • Help us build and lead a small estimating team as we scale.
