Estimator  Summary  SMS group is expanding its team and seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to play a vital role in our growth. In this position, you will develop accurate cost estimates derived from proposal data sheets and collaborate directly with the Vice President to determine optimal overhead and profit margins in alignment with current company policy. We offer company events, activities, and opportunities to participate in charitable initiatives that benefit the communities where we are located.  www.sms-group.us [http://www.sms-group.us] What you’ll do * Responsible for all project estimates * Collaborate with the sales engineer and chief mechanical engineer to estimate equipment weight information * Collaborate with the sales engineer to recommend equipment references to be used as cost basis * Use SMS business systems to create estimates, as well as charts and diagrams as required * Partner with the corporate team in further development of internal estimating software and procedures * Work up costs for installation and materials for pipe, equipment, structural steel, etc. * Monitor progress of vendor responses to inquiries * Assist sales and proposal engineers in preparing proposals * Partner with purchasing and vendors to solicit equipment quotations and to develop potential vendors * Track and update corporate directives regarding estimating procedures * Responsible for sales calls and attend sales functions, as required * Work with team members in the proposal stage on inter-departmental contacts concerning proposals * Assist sales engineers in presenting detailed estimates to Vice President and/or senior management for approval * Other job duties assigned What you’ll need * Associate degree or higher in an engineering or business discipline or appropriate work experience required * A minimum of five (5) years in the steel or similar heavy industry with knowledge in equipment design fabrication, machining and / or procurement * Domestic and international business travel as required * Strong written, verbal and computer skills required * Must be able to read engineering drawings and bills of material * Ability to interact with vendors and customers, as required * Candidates must be self-motivated and display creativity, strong problem-solving skills, and work well in a diverse team environment * Excellent computer skills, with a strong emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint What we offer Competitive compensation, medical/dental/vision coverage, paid vacation, paid holiday time, 401k with a company match, training, a tuition reimbursement program and more!
