Position: Extended Term Substitute, Kindergarten Teacher
Available September 2025 through December 2025
Martin Luther King, Jr. School
Martin Luther King, Jr. School Community:
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School (MLK) is an innovative public school where every student learns Mandarin Chinese. The King School provides two options for pursuing Chinese language study. Students may pursue a sequential Two-Way Immersion option focused on the development of biliteracy in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Or, students may choose to balance daily Chinese lessons with other core content. For Grades JK – 2, classrooms follow two learning strands, which merge together for English and Chinese instruction for Grades 3 – 5.
We believe our programs prepare, enrich, and challenge our students for success as global citizens and scholars. Our students benefit from an expanded learning day (8 hours). This provides opportunities for increased enrichment and more time on core subject areas. The extended day offers teachers the flexibility to set the pace and intensity of learning based on student needs and interests. This time also enables us to offer enhanced enrichment that captures students’ curiosity.
The Opportunity:
The MLK School is seeking an Extended Term Substitute (ETS) Kindergarten teacher. This position offers the opportunity to work with a small class of no more than 20 students, alongside a classroom aide for additional support.
We are looking for a dedicated and nurturing educator who fosters a welcoming, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for our youngest learners. The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, skilled in classroom management, and committed to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
The ETS teacher will be responsible for implementing differentiated, innovative instruction to a diverse group of student learners. The ETS teacher will have an appreciation and awareness of language acquisition and the unique developmental needs of early elementary children. The ETS teacher will work closely and cooperatively with grade-level and whole-school teams of faculty, including special educators, ESL educators, instructional coaches, and paraprofessional aides. The ETS teacher will incorporate a variety of assessment strategies, including district-wide exams and formative assessment, in order to inform and modify instruction and target intervention and enrichment needs.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming ETS Kindergarten Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
